Leaving for the island that her father left 50 years ago, the director goes back in time and traces back the story of her surname. It takes back to the times of slavery, and to the moment, in 1848, when newly freed slaves received their names from their former masters. She follows the paths of memory through the Creole gardens and the ruins of sugar factories, encounters the youth of Guadeloupe, who lack their own history. Along this personal search, the vision of a country is drawn, a living history of slavery, as a part of the history of France, is told.
