In Arki, an island windswept and lost in the heart of the Aegean, it has been nine years since a child was born. In the only tiny school there is only one pupil: Kristos. In two years he will have to leave the island if he is to continue the compulsory education. His family, however, can’t afford this. His teacher Maria could help by taking Kristos to live with her on another island. For Kristos this is a difficult choice. He doesn’t know how to swim yet and he has never seen the world beyond the sea. To embark on this venture would mean to leave the island, its wild playground, and to abandon his family. It would also mean to have the opportunity to attend a school full of other children and teachers. Kristos’s choice will affect the entire community. Everyone is cheering for him to finish the compulsory school and to fulfill his dream of becoming a teacher, yet, without him, the 29 inhabitants of the island will remain more and more alone fighting against Nature.
